This decorative Antique Pottery Brandy Spirit Barrel, made by Hollinshead & Kirkham of Tunstall, dates from circa 1880.  The Pattern Name is Swan and the Barrel is decorated with a hand-coloured transfer print within gilt borders of Vines.

There is an old star crack in the base which carries up one side for about 2.5 inches (6 cm).  This is not open and is quite stable.  There is no restoration.

This Spirit Barrel displays well.
