This very attractive Pair of Regency Tinsel Pictures, in contemporary. Apple Frames, date from circa 1820.  They are entitled Mr. DUCROW as The Greek Patriot and Mr. Smith as The Pirate of the Black Sea.

Andrew DUCROW (1793-1842) was a British Circus Performer, often called The Colossus of Equestrians and Proprietor of Astley’s Amphitheatre.

The pictures have been enhanced with coloured silk and metal adornments and your attention is especially drawn to the Skull and Crossbones detail to the Pirate’s Tunic and Hat.They are full of colour, vigour and dramatic intent.

One frame is very slightly smaller.
