GEORGIAN SUNDERLAND LUSTRE TALL SHIP JUG c1830

This well-drawn Sunderland Lustre Jug dates from circa 1830.

It is decorated with a transfer print of a Tall Ship in full sail, beneath which is the verse:

Majestically slow before the breeze

The tall ship marches on the azure seas

In silent pomp she cleave the watery plain 

The pride and wonder of the billow main

To the other side is the transfer entitled Farmers’ Arma.  Beneath the spout is a beautiful and freely painted flower within foliage.

The yellow band forms a nice contrast with the pink lustre.

There is an old star crack to the side and foot rim which is stable.  There is an old, thin surface chip to the lip and a shrinkage line where the spout joins the body which has occurred during the firing.

There is no restoration.
