TWO CRIMEAN WAR PRINTS c1850

£185.00

SKU: 1465

These Two Hand-coloured Crimean War Prints, with their original frames and glass, date from circa 1850.

They were Printed and Published by S. Marks of 91 Long Lane, W. Smithfield (Sarah, widow of John Lewis Marks).

The Prints are entitled ‘The Battle of Inkerman – November 5th 1854’ and ‘The Death of Sir George Cathcart’.  Prints of this kind were never expensive.  They were produced quickly to reflect the news of the time, hence the best materials were not used.  Even the glass was meanly cut (it is very slightly shy on the bottom left corner of Sir George Cathcart) and what was to hand was made use of.

Height:  7.75 inches (19.5 cm)
