This interesting Pair of Country House Wall Sconces have their own story to tell.

The Oriental Dishes, decorated in the Imari Palette, date from around 1800.  When the fashion of everything Oriental raged, in the late 1800s/early 1900s, the brass surrounds and sconces were made to give the Dishes a new life.  Although one of the Dishes was damaged their value was recognised, even 100 years ago.  The brass frames have been left untouched (i.e. unpolished) to reflect the Sconces’ interesting history.

Condition:  One of the Dishes is in good condition.  The other has been broken and reglued with old-fashioned brown glue.  Two small pieces of the original porcelain are missing.  The brass candle cups have, at some time, been drilled to hold electric wire.
