PAIR ENGLISH WALNUT SOFAS WINDOW SEATS c1870

This superb Pair of English Walnut Sofas or Window Seats date from circa 1870.

They have well-turned, graduated spindles. crisply-carved end supports, attractively-shaped back rails and serpentine fronted seats.  The well-designed legs are raised on their original brass casotrs with beaded collars.

Part of the appeal of these Sofas is that they are not large, the seats being 14 inches (36 cm) high, and so could be used in front of a fire or window, on the landing or in a middle of a room without blocking sight lines.  They are carved at the back as well as the front so have a visual appeal all the way round.

The Sofas are in good condition.  They are firm, have well-sprung seats and a good patina.  The Dralon covers are not new and were probably done about 30 years ago.  They show signs of fading and some marks.
