DRIVER & EYRE ENGLISH GEORGIAN CARRIAGE TRUNK 1798-1800

£485.00

SKU: 1563

This English Georgian Metal-Bound Carriage Trunk retains its original Makers’ Label to the inside of the lid.  It reads:  Driver and Eyre, Trunk, Plate Case, Messenger Box Makers to The Dukes of Gloucester and Cumberland, at The Kings Arms in Cockspur Street and at No 70 Charing Cross, London.  This dates the Trunk between 1798-1800.

The Trunk is finished with close-nailed detail and bears the initials PD to the top of the lid, skilfully-applied with small headed nails.  The inside is lined with newspapers, including The Times from Thursday November 12th 1788, which have been decorated with stencilled dots.

There are the obvious signs of wear but the Trunk if original throughout.
