BENHAM AND FROUD BRASS COAL HELMET c1880

This unusual Antique Brass Coal Helmet, bearing the mark of Benham & Sons, Wigmore Street, London and the Orb and Sceptre Mark of Benham and FROUD, dates from circa 1880.

It is engraved BOW ROOM  to the top, indicating the specific room in which it was used in a large Country House.
It is beautifully made which, along with its elegant shape, is a sure sign of a prestigious manufacturer.
Alongside the Orb and Sceptre Mark on the base are, what appears to be, Inventory Marks from when the contents of a large Country House were itemised.
There is a good quality shovel which fits inside the helmet,
Both helmet and shovel are in good, usable condition.

Depth from front to back of handle: 20 inches (51 cm)
